Julia Dunkerley, Principal Adviser at Changeworks provides an update on the Radio Teleswitch Switch-Off:
'The Radio Teleswitch is an old type of electric meter which is used for tariffs with a day and night rate for electricity for example Economy 10. It is typical in households with storage heaters and in Edinburgh it is impacting some City of Edinburgh Council Tenants including those with Heat with Rent charges and other social housing tenants.
These type of meters will become unusable from 30th June 2025 therefore all customers will need to change to a modern, ideally smart meter, before then.
There are a lot of challenges with this rapid transition but Ofgem is coordinating a campaign and Changeworks are also supporting with the transition. They have produced a range of resources including an online guide and information leaflet attached below.
